NIC COLLINS

I'm Nic Collins, best known as the writer and director of the SXSW Official Selection Beached and the Adult Swim animated series Thoron the Conqueror. My career began by directing music videos in Chicago's hip hop and punk music scenes, which has provided me with a unique approach to storytelling as well as the ability to create unforgettable viewing experiences.

I specialize in character-driven stories, dramedy, and grounded realism, along with blending noir aesthetics with vibrant splashes of color. My films often depict young, complex characters navigating the world in pursuit of love, connection, and achieving their dreams. I explore the positive and negative aspects of human relationships through a combination of humor and drama, while also utilizing sound design and music to create an immersive experience for the audience.

My work has screened at festivals like SXSW, DTLA Film Festival, and Rome International Film Festival; featured on Adult Swim, MTV, Film Shortage, and DUST; and received positive coverage from UPROXX, ScreenRant, The Daily Dot, and Gizmodo. My screenplays have been recognized by competitions such as the Sundance Institute | New Voices Lab, ScreenCraft Action/Adventure Screenplay Contest, The Golden Script Competition, Final Draft - Big Break, and The Finish Line Script Competition. Clients include NBCUniversal, Buzzfeed, Meta, Dynamite Comics, WhatCulture Wrestling, GSLA, Hollywood Records, Pinnacle Advertising, the People's Choice Awards, the Streamy Awards, and more.

Whether I'm creating social media ads, music videos, talking head interviews, or narrative films, I approach each project with the same level of dedication and attention to detail. In addition to my filmmaking work, I also co-host a screening series in LA for both established and indie filmmakers called Short Round Cool Sh*t and mentor upcoming writers and directors through the Columbia College Chicago Alumni Association and HBO Young Storytellers.
